8 Tips To Improve Your Private ADHD Titration Game

Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a national shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and the growing demand for ADHD medications worldwide.

Our service is private ADHD titration instead of waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessments cost include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A thorough assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be carried out by a highly experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This will include a medical history and an assessment using the standard ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your examination, you will be informed that medication may be beneficial in your particular situation. This will be discussed during your follow-up appointment (which can be scheduled in person, via video link or by telephone). Your clinician will explain the various options for medication and if you decide to start on medication we will offer to titrate the dose to optimise the balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This process may take several weeks, and involves adjusting your child's medication slowly until the right balance is achieved. It is not unusual to need to adjust three or four medications before finding the one that is best for your child's ADHD symptoms. It's important for parents to be involved in this  titration process  and keep an eye on their child's behavior to let the doctor know whether the medication is working or causing side effects.

Unless you have decided to return to NHS care and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be provided with a private prescription which you'll have to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fees). You will need to keep up with your appointments every six months to monitor your medication. This includes the measurement of pulse and blood pressure. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the evaluation has been completed, you will be able to book follow up appointments with your psychiatrist, if appropriate. The appointment is usually done via zoom video call. However, in some circumstances, it might be possible for an audio-only appointment to be scheduled (again at an additional cost).

We will then discuss treatment options and decide on the most appropriate, customized ADHD medication titration. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dose and any side effects that you might be experiencing. These titration sessions cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions, and PS60 via video or telephone consultation. The pharmacy will be charged for any cost of medication.

The psychiatrist will ask you questions about your family history as well as the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your daily life and any mental health issues you might be suffering from. This is because ADHD can be an inheritable condition, and it is important that we assess any family history that could suggest that you are at risk of developing the disorder.

During the assessment, it is vital that you are honest and open with the doctor in the sense that they will use the information you provide to determine whether you are able to meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is a crucial step, as the wrong diagnosis can lead to inappropriate medication prescription.

If you've decided that you would like to receive treatment for your ADHD, we will then schedule a follow-up appointment with one of our psychiatrists who specialise in this field. If you'd like to begin treatment right away it is possible to start treatment when you are diagnosed. You can also take for two weeks before considering the implications of the diagnosis and what options you have.

We suggest that if are unsure of your preferences, you speak with your GP prior to scheduling your private appointment. Certain providers have different guidelines regarding whether or not they require a GP letter. We also recommend to confirm that your GP accepts a "Shared-Care Agreement which means that once you are discharged from the clinic, you will be referred back to them for the medication prescription.

Medication

For many people who want a private diagnosis of ADHD medication is a key element of their treatment. It isn't easy to obtain prescriptions from psychiatrists on the NHS. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long and GPs may be reluctant to refer patients on to specialist services.

One method to avoid this is to request your GP to refer you through Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). This means you can select one that provides an assessment and titration. This can cut down on wait time by a significant amount and is more convenient if you are working and have a busy schedule.

If you are recommended, your physician will evaluate you to determine if require medication titration. You'll have to fill out forms that vary by doctor however the most commonly used ones are self-reporting forms and medical histories that go to childhood and adulthood. These forms will help your clinician determine if there are reasons that suggest you shouldn't take ADHD medication, if they have been prescribed.

If you are being titrated, the medication will consist of stimulants and nonstimulant medicines. These will be thoroughly assessed and monitored to determine the most suitable combination for you. The titration can be long and may require several extra appointments before you are stable.

Depending on the kind of medication you are taking, follow up appointments can be scheduled either monthly or quarterly. This will involve your clinician checking that you are on the right medication, recording any side effects you've experienced and making any adjustments needed to ensure that you're on a dose that is safe. You'll also have to attend a regular health check which can include blood pressure and pulse readings, as well as weight and weight measurements and an annual review.

Some people may be satisfied with their medication and don't have to discuss their titration process further. If you're looking to discuss your titration plan or treatment plan in more detail it is possible that you'll be referred to the private clinic who performed your initial assessment. In this instance the titration is included in the consultation fee. The medication will be provided through an individual prescription. This can cost more than a prescription from the NHS since the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
